Sleepy Sundaze: 2012 Issue #10
I confess I watch a good amount of useless Reality Tv. But it’s that odd niche of Reality programming that exists between the Cooking Channel & the History Channel. I am talking about ‘Swamp People’, ‘Storage Wars’, ‘American Pickers’ and so on. I like to think of this as the ‘Main Street’ Reality Tv, while the extravagant lifestyles of The ‘Real’ Housewives & Kardashians’ are reserved under the ominous eponym – ‘Wall Street’ Reality Tv.
And I do believe the "Main Street vs Wall Street" dichotomy exists even in Tv programming. But what does it say when I watch Swamp People with an air of romanticism? No, I don’t imagine killing a ‘gator to be neither: A- something I’d be particularly adept at; nor B – a singular, artful act of hunting. However sprinting down the rivers of Louisiana, carving out the paths of the once-was is enough for me.
